Deepali Kadu’s income increased from Rs.5,000 to Rs. 12,000 as a result of training from YESummit and seedfund given. As her husband passed away, Deepali had to face a new reality of bearing the burden of expenses of the house with her two daughters. A time that left her completely confused and stressed as she said she never knew how to work for money as she had been conditioned since a child that ‘working is a man’s job.’ She says the first time she left her house alone was for the YESummit. She gathered the courage to start a business of making premix batter of dosa, thepla etc but earned only Rs. 5,000 that couldn’t pay her daughters school fees or daily expenses.
Poverty, constant embarrassment of begging for money from her brother and lack of self worth made her spiral down into a major depression. “It was complete darkness, I had no energy to even move out of my bed and suffered from stress triggered unbearable migraines.” she said. She says the YESummit online bootcamp gave her the courage to participate in the offline pitching event where she learnt everything from packaging, how to save, invest, market on social media and experiment with by making new products with food technology like shelf life. Implementing all this led her to increase her income to Rs. 12,000 a month "My daughters see that I am being less dependant on my brother which teaches them first hand the importance of being independant. I want to educate my daughters as incase a crisis strikes like for me, they will not get so badly impacted. They should be educated also to not be conditioned by the patriarchy to sit at home and feel their worth is only limited to house work like i felt." she said
Conditioned to believe only their husbands could work, the widows were scared to talk to strangers or leave their huts. When new financial responsibilities fell on them, they felt hopeless and helpless.
She used to give up on all her aspirations due to the fear of her heart problem. Entrepreneurship gave her the strength to think beyond her disability and follow her dream of starting a business.
Udyamita Yatra held 3 day entrepreneurship development training programs in all 36 districts of Maharashtra across 40 days along with interactions with students at ITI Colleges.
YAF saved me from committing suicide, helped me stand on my feet after my husband’s death and become a role model for my daughters.
She wants to grow her business to educate her girl child. "I want her to know her rights, not bow to patriarchy. Income increased after YAF helped us when we couldn't pay exam fees.
I was selling at a very local village level but when I came to YESummit in Pune City, I was exposed to customers and entrepreneurs from India and abroad. I began to dream to make a mark nationally and globally as the judges taught me professionalism
